Japanese history cannot just be put down to ninja and samurai. On this tour you will be taken all the way back to ancient Japan to learn about Japanese gods and old myths.
In Japan, since ancient times, it was believed that a god existed in everything, whether an object or a living or moving thing, and so there is an abundant number of gods that the Japanese worship even today. One of these gods, Susanoo, is thought to be the child of the god who created Japan, and is the god that this tour is based around. Visit little animals that appear in myths and have a go at creating an ancient accessory; magatama. Magatamas were worn around people's necks and used in daily life in ancient Japan!
・Compare your height to the biggest torii shrine gate in the Kanto region of Japan.
・Learn all about an important Japanese god; Susanoo, and visit Hikawa Shrine where he is worshipped. The gate to this shrine is a magnificent piece of architecture.
・Make your very own magatama accessory.
・Taste the local speciality, Hikawa dango, fresh from the stove!
・Visit little animals that appear in mythical stories and discover their role in Japanese mythical tales.
・Hikawa Shrine Nino Torii Gate: Learn about Japanese myths and the famous god; Susanoo, as you walk up Hikawa Shrine's beautiful omotesando street towards the shrine gate.
・Hikawa Dango: Taste the delicious speciality of this area; Hikawa dango dumplings, in a shop with a long history.
・Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine: Visit Hikawa Shrine which has a history of over 2,000 years. The god introduced in this tour is worshipped here.
・Sessha Monkyakujin Shrine: Susanoo's wife, Inadahime's family is worshipped here. The shrine is known to be a "power spot".
・Omiya Park Zoo: Visit this small zoo where you will meet the animals that appear in old Japanese myths. See the Tsukinowaguma bears, also known as Asian Black Bears, here.
・Saitama Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore: Have a go at an ancient craft; carving a magatama, for the pendant of a necklace.
・Please come in comfortable clothing, as this tour involves a lot of walking.
・The tour begins and ends in different locations. If you would like to change the location of where the tour ends, please consult with your tour guide.
・We have not included any particular lunch/dinner places in this tour, but you are welcome to stop for a break and eat whenever and wherever you like.
Please bring at least JPY 800 with you (per person) on the day to cover your travel expenses, entrance fees and other necessary costs.
