Experience ceramic art near the airport on your way to Nagoya station!


If you are using Chubu Centrair International Airport and wondering what to do for a few hours, consider taking this tour! 
You will walk around Tokoname city known for pottery, which is 5 minutes away from the airport. 
Tokoname's pottery has a history of more than 1000 years. The city is also famous for "Manekineko", a gesturing cat figure which is thought to bring prosperity to businesses. Many of those you see across Japan are made in Tokoname where there is a wide variety of themed figures. Imagine walking in a small city full of "Manekineko" and you will feel excited! 
This tour highlighting pottery will introduce you to handmade crafts, and even let you make your own!

Highlights


・The city's symbol is a "Manekineko" statue which is larger than a human!
・You can learn about Japanese houses by taking a tour of a historic residence.
・You can take many photogenic pictures of pottery filling the city!

Attractions


・"Tokonyan": A huge "Manekineko" statue that watches over the area; it has become the city's symbol because of its head. Get close and take photos!
・Takita Family Residence (Old Shipping Family): You can walk inside and learn the history of Tokoname.
・Dokanzaka (Clay Pipe Hill): A place full of Tokoname's pottery where you will find Tokoname-yaki (Tokoname ware) pipes buried in the road and along both walls! Take photos of this scenery covered with clay pipes, because you will only find it here. 
・Nobori-Gama (climbing kiln): Eight large kilns used to bake pottery until 1974. You will also notice 10 chimneys, a unique feature, indicating the large production of pottery at that time.
・Tomo's world: A cozy shop selling originally crafted dishes and goods using Tokoname's clay. You will feel your heart relaxing just by looking at the simple but beautifully shaped potteries.
・INAX MUSEUMS: Hands-on museums where you can experience pottery-making. You can learn the whole process through seeing, touching, feeling and creating pottery. There are several spots which you can choose to visit these museums. INAX MUSEUMS are also highly recommended for those who are art-lovers♪

Notes

・Please wear comfortable clothing as this tour involves a lot of walking.
・The tour begins and ends in different locations. If you would like to change the location of where the tour ends, please consult with your tour guide.
・We have not included any particular lunch/dinner places on this tour, but you are welcome to stop for a break and eat whenever and wherever you like.
・"Tomo's world" is closed on Tuesdays and if any of the scheduled places are closed on the day you visit, your tour guide will take you to an alternate location.
・There are many areas with narrow stairs that cannot be accessed by wheelchairs. Please be aware that the guide will change the route if this is the case.
・It will cost JPY 900 if you decide to take the Mosaic Art Workshop at INAX MUSEUMS.

The travel expense is not included in the tour fee. Please bring extra money to experience this tour to its fullest.
